Re: Mesa Boogie+slp1959
I have a mesa rectifier 4x12 and I used it with my JCM 800, DSL 100, Sovtek mig 50 and a Mesa triple. It sounds great with all of them. It has vintage 30's and to me it sounds warmer and more pronounced than my 1960 cabs with the stock g12t-75 speakers. The sound is bigger as in you can feel it more without being overly loud.
The other cabs I liked are a 1960 with vintage 30's and VHT cabs are very good. Best wishes, TBW

Re: Mesa Boogie+slp1959
I personally can't stand those over-sized Mesa 4x12's. They sound way too 'woofy' if that makes any sense. I couldn't stand them. Most of the time when I see a veteran band play with Dual Rec heads they are typically using Marshall cabs since the mainstay of Mesa cabs ain't that great. I know they've got normal sized ones too but I haven't seen any in quite a while. Just my opinion though. Obviously we got a fan above, it's all about personal taste.
If you've already got the head and looking to buy a cab why not buy a Marshall cab? I would opt for anything with Vintage 30 speakers. Avatar makes quality stuff for real cheap and you can put any speaker you want in them. For an 1959SLP Celestion greenbacks would sound awesome, but they might not have as much depth as you want so the Vintage 30's are probably what you want if you're doing hard rock and metal. Speaker selection should be more of a priority than whoever makes the cab.

Re: Mesa Boogie+slp1959
I am very very happy with my marshall 1960a cab with vintage 30's. It is my go to cab for everything including recording. No matter the head. JCM 800 DSL 2000, Sovtek Mig 50 and the Triple rectifier. I do like the mesa cab very much though it has alot of balls. Sound wise for a variety of music Styles and for much less money I would go for the Marshall 1960 cab, with vintage 30's if possible. The stock speakers do very well in them though too. American Viking is on the money about the mesa cabs they are bottom endy but If its all you had, it would work very well. They are great for lowered C or D tunings and playing very heavy riffs. If I had the choice it would be the Marshall 1960a cab with the vintage 30's. I like them for blues, 80's rock and heavy to metal rock.
best wishes, TBW |

Re: Mesa Boogie+slp1959
I tried out a Marshall 1959 at Guitar Center and it sounded alright on a '75 based cabinet. The 1987 I own is uasually played with my 1936 with either a 75, v30 or both configuration. They sound great for metal but I think the best way to go would be the greenbacks. I have been searching high and low for the right cab for like 5 years, it's been a pain in the arse.
