An experiment

Hey ,
have you ever used a pair of headphones as an impromptu microphone?

ive read about folks milking this cab with that mic and so on but how about milking a cab with ........... a cab !!!!

i would do this myself but i am not able to mess around at the studio at the moment.

it could be done. Mics and speakers are essentially the same thing and can both function in reverse. The same as how an electric motor can act as a generator.

Re: An experiment

Hi subcity.Yeah it can be done but what your suggesting sounds MAD.
I done something like it once(and made 5 euro).
My friend bet me a fiver if I could make sound come out of a mic.
I took it one step further.I got a pair of earphones,DJ style, the big ones, you know? They had a 3.5mm jack on them so I got a 1/4 inch jack and stuck it on the end.I then pluged the earphones into the input of a marshall mg15dfx.Then I got this crap litle mic.I got it in some cheap electronics store for 10 euro I think. That had the same kinde of 3.5 mm jack on it some I put on a 1/4 inch converter and I connected it to the output on the amp.I threw my friend the headphones and said "speak",cranked up the volume and out came sound from the mic!

For what your suggesting you need to run your guitar into an amp then into a 4x12.Crack the Volume up real loud and putting another 4x12 RIGHT INFRONT AND FACING the first amp. This is so the vibrations of the 1st amps speakers would be strong enough to move the second 4x12.Then...youd have to take the signal from the 2nd 4x12 and run it into another amp! Then (if you want to record) take signal from the 2nd amp and run that into a mixing desk, computer or whatever. Its possible. The way youd hook it all up would be....

GUITAR-AMP-CAB1-CAB2 (facing CAB1)-AMP-Mixing Desk/Computer.
I hope it works for you!If you get any of it recorded, post a little bit on it on youtube,Id love to hear it.GoodLuck!

Re: An experiment

I plugged a SM48 into the speaker out of a PA once. It didn't survive.
