Marshall 1960 cab wiring
Out of the nearly hundreds of 70's Marshall cab's I've looked at, all the ones that were truely original hard red and black twisted wires inside the cabs. Has anyone ever seen a 70 or 71 cab with blue and brown wire? I'm looking at a cab to possibly purchase. There are some things that are bugging me about it. The first is the formentioned wiring color Brown and blue, I've never seen this. Did Marshall at one time or another use these colors. The speaker solder joints look to be original or a really great job at duplication. The speakers date to 1971 and are Rola Celestion LTD. Ipswitch Suffolk Greenbacks G12M 25 watters 75 c/s, the speaker frame ink stampings look brand new and the Plastic green backs have Made in England on them. The cab is in excellent but does have a couple of repairs in the tolex. Forgot to mention the cab has metal handles, which also look brand new, I thought 69 or 70 was the last of the metal handles. The cab also has gold wheel frames. Well hope someone here can help verify some of these issues and maybe educate me alittle.

Re: Marshall 1960 cab wiring
the brown and blue shows up every now and again. look at this one...
vintage 1973 marshall 4x12 bottom cabinet - eBay (item 190311625854 end time Jun-07-09 13:46:08 PDT) 71 was a transitional period for marshall cabs and celestion speakers. Marshall introduced a gradual change in the construction. by 72 all the new changes were in place. plastic handles, checkerboard grill, particle board back panel, smaller center block etc. a 1970 cab would still be made to 69 specs eg birch back panel, basketweave grill, but would have the larger 9" logo. a 71 cab would have either metal or plastic handles but would probably be a checkerboard grill. depends how early or late in 71 it was made really. re the speakers I think the pulsonic cones were still being used through to 1973 or 1974. if they still have the black tabs they are generally considered a pre-rola. if it has grey tabs it is a rola. also there should be no speaker symbol next to the celestion name on a pre-rola, that was introduced later. if you look at completed listings on ebay there was a 1970 basketweave bass cab and a 72 red cab that sold recently. his pictures werent great but they are a good example of the transition. |
