Re: Cabinet 1960A 300W
Nice cab, play one myself.
The 50 watt will only put out about 75 watts when flat out which still doesn't come close to damaging a cab built to take 300 watts, so you're safe. Not sure what the going dollar rate is but I wouldn't pay more than €300 for one, there are lots available second hand too so you might get a better deal.

An important part of a vintage sound is the breakup sound from the speakers.
You won't get that from a 300w cab. I would use a cab with 25w or 30w speakers to get the best sound from your metalface (not Plexi) 50w amp. |

Could you advise me what cab and amp I should looking for to get a decent vintage sound? Please give me a list of amps and cabs (if it's possible). There are so many and I'm not quite familiar with them. Thank you in advance. Besti wishes, Milen |

Re: Cabinet 1960A 300W
50w metalface amps will work fine.
I like the Bass version best, the model 1986. They stayed unchanged from the Plexi area up to '79. (but they changed to printboard, and transformers were not so good as the early ones) There's a lot of good cabs out there also, but the point is to choose a cab with low wattage speakers. A cab from the 70's, or some of the new cabs with RI speakers will work fine. And how much money do you want to spend? You can buy a '68 Plexi 50w halfstack from me, to get the best vintage sound you can get, but that's a lot of money. |

Re: Cabinet 1960A 300W
I'm a blues guitarist playing rock, no blues, and there's something to be said for playing through powerful speakers. I have a DSL 50 and G12H80 speakers, so 320 watts are not going to be breaking up. I agree blues sounds great with speaker distortion, but a pedal up front with the DSL's gain get a pretty good sound for blues when I jam. The upside is when I'm plaing chords loud: the speakers are really punchy and make for a real roar for the style of music I play.
