Cavinet for Marshall mode four 350W head
This one may well be a silly question
I have just bought a Marshall Mode Four 350W head. At present I do not have the money to but the cavinet so I prefer to go for a less expesive one. Can I use any cavinet/Speaker? Thanks all Oscar. |

Re: Cavinet for Marshall mode four 350W head
I have a Mode Four and the MF400 cab. I found there aren't many stock cabs that can handle its power output. I think its 350 watts @ 8ohm and 235 watts @ 16 ohm. I know you can use the MF400(8 ohm) and MF280(16 ohm), Marshall 1960a/b, Krank Krankenstein cab, Randall T2/V2 cabs, and I think Berhinger makes a cheap cab that can handle it. Personally I'd get a 1960 cab, they're pretty cheap used and sound better with the MF head than the MF cab IMHO. Good luck.

Re: Cavinet for Marshall mode four 350W head
Do NOT make the mistake of thinking you can use an underrated cabinet and just not play loud. BTDT...blew 3 speakers in 5 minutes at only moderate volume. Mode Four amps are not for most people as they are so powerful. You might consider trading it in and getting a 50 watt combo since you say money is at a premium.

Re: Cavinet for Marshall mode four 350W head
I have a Mode Four and I use it with a Peavey 412MS cabinet that I got for $300. The speakers are Sheffield 1290s which to my ears sound very Greenback-like, and that compliments the Mode Four's vintage 800-esque "Crunch" and Plexi-esque "OD1" channels. It has mono/stereo operation and 300w handling. Since I'm running from the "I" output on the Mode Four into the mono cab @ 16 ohms, the Mode Four produces 235 watts. I've found this to be a good combination because the Mode Four has enough wattage to really get those speakers moving but it doesn't overpower them.
I've used this setup in both practice and live situations and I love it. Since the power section is solid state, you can still sound good at lower volume levels. But when it's time to crank it up, well it sounds badass there too and cuts through a mix. The Peavey 412MS cab is definitely as heavy a 4x12 box as I've ever used, but like most Peavey stuff it's built tough, sounds good, and is inexpensive. I think it's a desirable alternative to the Mode Four cabs.
