Re: vintage by celestion

A lot of people refer to them being the same as Vintage 30s.

I don't know if they are or not... but I do know I love 'em!!!

I have a 1960AV cab and it's pure joy to play through!

Cool Re: vintage by celestion

Thanks guys, seems like the consensus is "Kinda like Vintage 30's" oh well, doesn't really matter cuz they sound great, I play a hotrodded 59 SL 100 Plexi MK II on an 83 LPC with an SH-6 Duncan Bridge PU, and it kicks ass, very crunchy and thick, speakers can get a little fizzy but not to bad.
it's Punk n' Roll.

Re: vintage by celestion

you can always ask dr decibel at celestion, they will not give you details on the specs on the OEM speaker, but will tell you if they are equivalent ones specialy if you ask them about replacing or something

Vintage30:
These are not vintage speakers, they were made for the first time in '86
They are not 30w.

They are ratet 60w from Celestion, and 70w from Marshall.

Semimodern 60/70 should be the right name.

Great, 'cept, no such speaker by that name exists on Celestions web site
my only real concern is that I like the sound these speakers are making and if they blow, what the hell do I replace em with?

Re: vintage by celestion

Dont worry you'll find them. Keep a lookout on ebay so you can buy yourself a spare when it comes along. Thats best thing about Mesa Boogie, Randall etc. becoming popular, its caused less people to need vintage boxes and speakers.

Re: vintage by celestion

Thank you Javier Pinto for the great advice, I did in fact contact the "Doc" @ Celestion and just received the following email:

The Marshall Vintage is a Vintage 30 but with different labels. As it is
a Marshall speaker it is only available from them but the regular V30 is
tonally the same so you can choose either.

Regards
The Doc

Subject: replacement speaker question

I have a 1960 BV cabinet and the speakers are "Vintage by Celestion"
I need to replace one of them because it's blown, what should I get? I
don't see them available on the celestion website, are they not
available? is it the same as a vintage 30?
Thanks in advance, Dave

Re: vintage by celestion

And it keeps getting easier, I also sent Marshall an email asking about replacements for the "vintage by marshall" speakers and it turns out they have a part number and can be ordered from marshall dealers easily enough.

Here's their reply to my email:
Dear Dave,

You may purchase any current Marshall parts and accessories, including replacement speakers, by placing a special order through any of the Marshall-authorized US Dealers listed online at Marshall US Registration. In addition to those dealers listed, we also recommend parts-specializing dealers such as Parts Is Parts (1-800-590-0014) or Antique Electronic Supply (480-820-5411).

The part number for the Marshall/Celestion Vintage speakers used in the 1960AV and 1960BV cabinets is B312D61018. If you or your dealer require further assistance regarding Marshall part numbers and current availability, we recommend contacting Korg USA’s Customer Service Department directly at 631-390-6800. Their office is available Mondays-Thursdays 9am-6pm, and Fridays 10am-5pm Eastern.

Best regards,

Mike

Re: vintage by celestion

Diamond - They are Marshall Vintage 30's! Rated at 70 watts! The Vintage Cabinet is wired to accommodate a 280 watt load! That's all 4 speakers in tandem, 70+70+70+70! You can switch from mono to stereo, load 2 - 100 watt heads up against it, and it will be fine! You can get replacement speakers pretty much anywhere! If you ever need any, just contact me! However, as long as your driving the same amp as I am, you should never need to replace them! They will actually sound better over time! The 1960 Vintage Cabinets were specifically made to do what we are wanting them to do! They are designed and built for Tube Output, and are considered Vintage Reissues!

Re: vintage by celestion

in any case when you require to replace a speaker you can also get a hellatone6o, they are vintage 30 relabeled to hellatone, they are already broken in so they could be a bit closer in sound to what you already have, they cost the same
