Angled vs straight 4x12 (1960A vs B)

In terms of beefyness, thud, bass feeling, is there a lot of difference between both cabs of a same brand?
Even at low volumes I like to feel this punch in there. Maybe it is 1960Beefy or 1960Bassy ?

Thanks for your opinions

Re: Angled vs straight 4x12 (1960A vs B)

A little more wood in the B cab just because the top is straight and not angled...so a little more bass. It's sounds a bigger difference than it actually is because the speakers aren't pointing at your ears. But...yeah it will sound different to you up on stage.

The Avatar Vintage 4x12 has the big cabinet volume of a bottom cab...but angles the speaker baffle slightly up...so it's the best of both worlds. The Avatar cab sounds bigger to my ears than a 1960.

Re: Angled vs straight 4x12 (1960A vs B)

There are a lot of different opinions on this subject. I personally like B's as I perceive them to be slightly stronger on the bottom end and I don't like having the speaker pointing up in my ear. If I were actively in a band, I would likely have a different opinion.

I prefer B cabs. They do produce a little more bottom end, and, to me, they just look better!

Cheers!

I like straight cabs a lot better, too. Beefier, more punch, more 'together' sounding/feeling.

Yes, more airspace in the B cab, gives it a bigger bottom end...

heresy!

I like both cab's. I currently have an A cab & dig it, but have played through many B cab's over the years & have dug those as well. In a band situation, more bottom isn't always a good thing. Cutting into the spectrum of the bass player will give the band an overall muddier sound.

On the other hand, I don't like when the sound is too shrill on a live show, which causes major listening distress. There's a good balance to be had & as long as you can get that within a sound that inspires you, you should be good to go.

My 2...

Re: Angled vs straight 4x12 (1960A vs B)

I've had both and currently play thru a B cab. B cab is more bassy. But I actually prefer the more trebly A cab. I also prefer the sound angling a little more upwards due to the A cab slant. An A cab is in my future.

the b cabs sound a little tighter and punchier because all 4 speakers are firing on the 'same plane'
Australian likes this.

Alright, cool feedback, a bit what I suspected, I'll probably go for a B. Thanks!

The Mode Four and the 1960TV are bigger than any 1960b cabs and would be my choice if space wasn't an issue. Load them with whatever your fav speaker is and you're golden.

I prefer the B cab too, for the same reasons.... More bottom, speakers not aimed at your face......
