Re: strange speakers......
G12H30's are not greenbacks...but they are great speakers. That sounds bizarre what is written on them. Any chance of some pics?

Re: strange speakers......
My early 1980's G12H-80's are 15 ohms too. I never found out why Celestion would not make them 16 ohms...anyone?

The difference between 15 and 16 ohms is meaningless... Resistance is variable and fluxuates So a 15 ohm speaker is 15 ohms about as often as it's 12 ohm or 17 ohms depending on the signal and exact second you took the measurement

Celestion along with other manufacturers produced lots of different speakers. Lots were marked with resonance frequencies from 50Hz to 80Hz or so. I have never seen 40Hz, so please show some pictures with "T" numbers. I know the topic of nominal impedance was brought up a little. Most speakers were labeled as 15/16, 8 or 4 ohms. There are the occasional oddball impedances like 10 and 6 ohms too which are seen sometimes. Don't get caught up in the "Colored Cover Delimma". "Greenback" just means it has a green magnet cover and nothing more. Lots of speakers had green covers and lots of those same speakers were also distributed without covers. Does that make them "Invisiblebacks" or "Nobacks"? |

Re: strange speakers......
I like nobacks...and then we could also have missingbacks.
I've seen Celestion G12H30 T2328's with 1321 cones and they were labeled 40hz at 8 ohms. I've aslo seen Celestion H12M25 T1925 with 444 cones and they were labeled 50hz at 16 ohms. But I don't think I have seen 6 ohm Celestions, oh those would be cool for a 3x12. |

Re: strange speakers......
I am sure there are a good bit of missingbacks out there.
![]() I have never owned a 10 or 6 ohm Celestion. I have read about or noticed the oddball impedance speakers. I guess they have their place but need to be matched up somehow to a particular amplifier. I believe one was part of a Park combo or stack. I may have seen some on schematics or as part of the description in a price guide or maybe even Ebay. They are interesting but I have never tracked any because of the odd impedance. A 40Hz speaker is very interesting. But I wonder, is it full range or mid/bass? |
