Question Celestion G12T-75 and G12M greenback 4x12 Combination..Anybody tried this??

So I'm thinking of making use of my spare empty cabinet.

The plan is to install 2 of the 75 watt celestions from a standard 1960 and 2 of the 25 watt greenbacks in an X pattern.

My thinking is that because the 75's have a naturally scooped character and the greenbacks have stronger mids, this combination would give the best of both worlds.

Anybody tried this??

I heard Neil Schon from Journey loaded his cabs this way in the 80's.

I believe the sensitivity rating for the two types of speakers is too big of a gap where the 75's would drown out the 25's. I thought that was the general consensus....Ken?

I don't use this combination in a single cab, but I do run two 4 X 12's concurrently, one with greenbacks and one with G12T-75's. I absolutely love the combination and agree with your assessment that you get the best of both worlds.

The greenbacks have a sensitivity of 96 dB and the 75's are rated at 97 dB. Since they are close, they are very balanced when used together. By comparison, a Vintage 30 is rated at 100 dB and when mixed with greenbacks, you would hear a noticable difference.

Some folks don't like the 75's, but I love the tight low end and sparkling highs it adds to the crunchy and more midranged focused greenbacks.

I purposely sit between both cabs when practicing, just to get the best of both worlds. There are a few other members here who have combined them in a X pattern with very positive results.

In the Joe Satriani, Live from San Francisco DVD, he is running both cabs simultaneously. He discusses this when being interviewed. Not sure which one made it in the mix, though it sounds a lot more like the greenbacks.

other way around. greenies have higher sensitivity rating. Actualy they work fine. they work better than greenies and V30's in this regaurd but i think the V30's ar a better compliment and they have an even higher sensitivity rating.

so they can all work.

the issue will be running at 100w. the rule of thumb is you go by the lowest wattage speakerx4 so he can run no more than 100 watts rms.

V30's sound great with G12T-75's.

I prefer this combo in a 1960 cab over the greenbacks.

Much tighter bottom end with the V30's.

No worries they can take it . If you go with V30 / 75 combo try just one V30 first. They are 100db to the 75's 97db and two could well overpower the 75's. I love my 4 x 12's with 75's & Greenies 97db & 98db so not really an issue one versus the other. A 2 x 12 with one 75 and one V30 (on the right) sounds meaty.

I run that setup! Greenback is 98db and T75 is 97db, they compliment very well. I went from V30xT75 to this setup, and find it a massive improvement for my type of tone. The V30 setup is more aggresive and tight though, so if you only play metal you might prefer it, but I like greenbacks more for the variety of styles i play
