Re: AVT vs 1960

Thats a diferent question - they are different cabs. The AVT is smaller, made of MDF, with different drivers and wired to an 8Ohm impedance to work best with SS output stages. But I dont know how to really improve it, other than trying differnt speakers in it. Also, make sure all screws are tight and particularly the centre post needs to be pressing firmly on the back panel as the panel is screwed down.

Exclamation Re: AVT vs 1960

Aside from the differences in size, construction materials and speakers, my experience is that the AVT cab has more accentuation on the low-end (for "modern" sounds), whereas when I plug my AVT50 head into a full size cab (as I did a couple weeks ago when I used another guy's cab at a gig) it's the other way, and I have to totally pull back on the highs to avoid too much bite. I actually like the wider range (and little bit better spread) of a full size 4x12, but honestly, the AVT cab's not a piece of crap like some folks might suggest. It (like the AVT series in general) just takes patience to get the right sounds out of it. Once you find the sweet spots though, you'd have a hard time telling the difference between the cabinets if you were standing in front of them with them blasting at you. I will agree on the other comment about making sure all the screws (including speaker mounts) are tight, because once one of mine had a couple looseys and it buzzed and rattled like no tomorrow. Once I got 'er tightened up she was back to normal. But now, if you go plugging the same amp into both cabs, you're gonna' hear totally different sounds till you tweak that EQ some. Another remedy, ADD CASTERS to the AVT cab. I put some EB popout casters on mine, and the difference just having it 2 inches off the ground made was astonishing, really brought more of the farty lows out to make it sound much more defined. All in all the AVT's a decent cab (better speakers than the MG cab and older Valvestate cabs, in my opinion), and fits in the back of my Celica, so I'm happy. Plus I still sound like Angus when I want, so it's all good.

Re: AVT vs 1960

thats cool to hear. ive been after a bassier sound and i wasnt sure what the 1960 had to offer. i also did mount some sweet casters on mine that the machine shop here at ISU was going to throw away.
