v30s or g12s

Hi Ive been playing a 1960A cab for ages now and am pretty happy with it, but I have read a lot about people putting v30s in them. Ive read various opinions, but was wondering if there is a general consensus as to what is best for metal. I play downtuned 7 strings and have a 900 and a 900 SLX, and wonder which is good for getting a nice tight sound at high volume, I like how my cab sounds, but it could always be tighter. I dont really have the luxury of ABing different speakers, not much selection (used or new)where I am, also is a 1960 AV EXACTLY the same as 1960A except for speakers, cos if I track one down I suppose that would be good way to tell, (as long as design and wood are the same) sorry for the epic novel, cheers!

Re: v30s or g12s

Either way you go I would recommend the Avatar Hellatone 30s (G12H30) and Hellatone 60s (V30) since they are real Celestions that are aged (broken in), relabeled (you can still see the Celestion Label underneith) and then sold cheaper then Celestions. I put a mix of the Hellatones 30/60s in my 4x12 and love it for metal, or anything else for that matter. But I also played a Bogner Uberschall yesterday with V30s and it was freakin heaven.

Re: v30s or g12s

My jubilee cab with the 1987 V30's sounds fantastic with any amp I own, but especially with the vintage modern.

+1 with what zeus suggested though. I've not owned any hellatones but I've heard nothing but good things about those speakers.

Re: v30s or g12s

my lm 6100 has some great high gain tones , i have always liked the v30's with the high
gain setting etc., and the g12 h 30's with the classic rock or lower gain stuff etc. but
i have always said , "let your ears decide" , i think that these are the two best speaker
choices for your application. IMO

You have the equivalent of Hellatones now. Your speakers are broken in. Same speakers on all counts. Now get a G12K100 and pair it with your V30.

Wouldn't be prudent, I have a 1960A right beside it!

Man I need to get a 412 again. I miss the fullness. I'm planning on within 2/3 months to have an Avatar 412 with an X pattern of V30's & G12K100's. I think it will go real nice with the DSL. I still want to get some GB's sometime too.

I just like to experiment mang. Lately its been paying off. Thats why I like check'n in with you cause you be trying stuff too.
