Whats speakers in 1960AV?

I have heard a lot about Celestion Vintage 30's.

The only cab I can find in the Marshall range which has Vintage Celestions in it are the 1960AV & BV.

What exactly are the speakers in the 1960AV because I am thinking of getting one this weekend?

Are they Vintage 30's?

So basically they are 70w versions of V30's?

Because it has a max handling of 280w so.....

Re: Whats speakers in 1960AV?

According to Marshall's website, they are Vintage Celestions made specially for Marshall. That would probably explain the different wattage rating than the ones you would buy yourself. I'm sure they sound similar to any other Celestion V30. Marshall is just such a huge customer of Celestion, they can make a special deal with them and have their own speaker. Same kind of thing you see in a big retail store with many products.

Re: Whats speakers in 1960AV?

The only difference is the Marshall label on the back. They are standard V30s. Celestion rates them conservatively at 60 watts and Marshall rates them at 70 watts. Speaker rating is not an exact science. Suffice to say, they are standard V30s.

Re: Whats speakers in 1960AV?

Hi,this is my first post on this forum! I just wanted to say that since I bought my JVM410H & 1960AV, Marshall is certainly where its at!!! The 1960AV is a perfect match for the JVM. I researched which cab to get before I handed over any money and found that many articles said the std 1960A seemed to be too harsh at the top end. Having done a few gigs now, I can honestly say that vintage 30's cover the frequency range very well, especially in the bass dept! One truly happy customer. PRS Custom/Fender Strat.
