AVT50 paired with V30 and G12H anniverary

Hi i have an AVT50 with an upgraded internal Celestion 8ohm V30 from what it came with from the factory, sounded great but i wanted the extra power (rated at 50 W @ 4 ohmand the 8 ohm cut it to about 30 w according to celestion).

Anyway i got a Celestion G12H anniversary (could not afford the heritage at this time), and installed on an external 2 cu ft made to order cab, however it is a closed back and at full volume it sounds like it is compressig the sound, tried it with the back open and more clear output was hear, however i would like to keep as much low end as i can

any of you guys have tips to make the opening dimensons to take off from?

heres a pic of the my rig, yeah i know the axe is a squier, but the dimarzio rail pups really make up for the sound (and it was a present from my mom )and the cab was made in a very profesional way by a guy that is dedicated to make cabs for PA systems

thanks in advance for your help

try cuting a baffle hole in the back instead of opening it
up all the way, about the size of a coke can

Re: AVT50 paired with V30 and G12H anniverary

Thanks Coldsteal2, is this recomendation based on the same principles used for subwoofer enclosures?, if so should i try to tune the port oppening (diameter and lenght of the port, using PVC pipes) to the resonant frequency of the speaker? or just opening the hole would be enough

Again Tks a lot and i´ll post how it ends up

BTW what do u have on your AVT?

Yea, you can also do it on the front baffle might
be tricky with the grill cloth though

Yea you can use pcv pipes you can ajust them
by moving them in or out till it sounds right then
cut them and glue or screw them in.

A hole might be enough though. just enough to release
the pressure

I just have my solid back on my AVT i dont play it loud
enough to have to worry about the pressures on it, i use
my other marshalls for higher volume so havent had
that problem

Re: AVT50 paired with V30 and G12H anniverary

finally did it coldS, still have to paly a few more hrs to define if i got what i was expecting, but so far lost none of the lows, i did make the opening a bit smaller (with a door knob drill bit? or whatever is called), perhaps i just need to make an additional opening of the same size.

What i did notice is that the speaker is less stressed it reacts better/faster and i clearly hear the speaker distortion (is it called break up?) with a good sound/tone, instead of just distortion (muddy) without sound definition; the combination V-30 and G12H (aniv) sounds really good i just need now to make the V30 sond a bit less directional to have a spread sound

Thanks for your help and advice

Does clear distortion with sound definition even makes sense?, wow hifi world is a lot different from the guitar sound world

yea you cant beat that combination of speakers, the
two best speakers Celestion makes in my opinion

Well clear distortion would usualy come from amp distortion
and clean speaker, distortion from speakers would be dirty
distortion

Re: AVT50 paired with V30 and G12H anniverary

yeap disty distorsion that´s what i get, however what i meant is that it is very defined with a tone you can distinguish notes and all, before the opening it was kinda all mixed up and you could not distinguish notes and all.

any way thaks for your help

one last thing, if i remember correctly you have some sort of dispersor on your combo kindda like a cone or something am i correct?, that is to have a more disperse sond from the v30 correct?, where can i get one or what brand is it?

Best regards

The Webber Beam Blocker, really works great for cutting
down on harsh blast of treble, and spreads the sound out a bit
there are three sizes i got the largest i think a mid size would be
the best
