Good replacement speaker for 5005 Lead 12?

My Lead 12 gets way too nasty on the High input channel too quickly. It's unusable when the gain is above 3 pretty much no matter where the guitar and amp volume are. Also, on the Low channel, it's not very loud even when I have both guitar ad amp dimed. I thought this amp could get fairly loud, for 12 watts. All in all, it just doesn't have much volume OR headroom.

Is the stock Celestion G10-20 speaker a good one, or merely decent? Is it worth considering an upgrade to something that would give me more headroom and a little nicer clean tone without sacrificing that "Marshall" overdriven tone when wanted?

Or is the speaker a key to this amp's sound?

Ted Weber recommended his Alnico Blue Pup, but at $95, it gives me pause; that's what I spent on the amp itself. Still ...

Suggestions? Maybe for a good speaker that's not going to set me back 95 bills? Eminence Ramrod? Eminence Legend? A particular Celestion? Or will this be a waste of money?
