1960a or MG412A or MC412
what is the difference between this 3 cabs the 1960A is 800bucks the MG412A is 279 and the MC412 is 600 bucks? i have an ampeg cab and would like to switch to a marshall amp that would match my JCM 900 100 watts but kind limited on funds, is there a big difference on sound quality? i know the wattage is different and I know the 1960A is the top dog but how bout the MG412a against MC412?

Re: 1960a or MG412A or MC412
i havent heard the mc412 so i cant comment on that one.
the 1960a and the mg412 are worlds apart.......the 1960a is bigger, made outta better materials, and has better speakers, i wouldnt recommend the mg cab at all. the mc412 is 600.00 new. you can get 1960 cabs used for less than that! so if i were you i would be looking for a used 1960a. i scored a jcm900 lead 1960 cab that the previous owner had loaded v30's in for 425.00 just to give you an idea of what's out there if you go used! good luck and let us know what u come up with!!!

MG cabs are awful. You need to crack open the back of one of these. You should see the magnet on the speaker. It's tiny. It's kinda funny looking. You just laugh when you see it. But CS is right, materials used are very different and obviously speakers will be different.

Re: 1960a or MG412A or MC412
I'm going to step in here for a second. I own 4 MG 412's and 4 1960's. They're different animals for sure, but for the money the MG's sound a hell of a lot better than Line 6, Behringer, or even Fender for that matter. They are particleboard, yes. They're made in Korea and Vietnam, not England, but they do a good job. I used the MG's with my 3210 heads, and it sounds pretty damn good. They are smaller than 1960's. and are better suited for solid state heads or modelers, not tube heads. They are also a HELL of a lot lighter too. The MC cabs are machine cut, but made in England with no real dressing to them...piping, etc. So they're kinda in between. By the way, I paid 185 for each MG head here in Chicago at Guitar Center...yes, Guitar Center new. You just have to wait til the end of the month.
Your choice of cab depends on the amp, period. By the way, if you have an Ampeg with the newer logo; the ones designed for use with the Lee Jackson designed Ampeg's, I"d keep that cab. Those sound great! |

Re: 1960a or MG412A or MC412
The AX and BX cabs ARE nicer, but for basic rock, the JCM 900 is fine. The AX and BX are so much more expensive here. I bought a 1960 cab for 200 dollars on Craigslist. Yes, the tolex was a bit beat, but it sounds great.
