swapping cab speakers to other cabs with a twist
HI guys,
I have a 425A VM cab with g12c's in it. I love the speakers with my 2204 JCM800. I bought the cab to go with my JTM45. I dont like the sound with the 45. I have a 1960AV with the V30's. Sounds great with the JTM. But the cab doesnt match-- no gold pinstripe etc. Should I just swap the speakers so the VM cab had the V30's? and it looks like a match cosmetically? Should I put the g12c's in the 1960A cab? It matches the JCM better cosmetically. Or is this just dumb. I don't plan on selling them and I guess if I die and my wife who fortunately has no idea of what I have or what it's worth might get rid of them for way cheap. Hey, if I'm dead, who cares........ what do you say?

Yeah, I agree. Sounds like something I'd do too. You're keeping all the parts so you can go back to stock anytime. I almost ordered a custom head box for my 800 because I have the 1960ax in green with the large check. The mismatch really bothered me at first but now I kinda like it. They're like 2 separate pieces with their own personality.

Those are all sweet speakers. I've been wanting some of these G12-C speakers for a while. |

Re: swapping cab speakers to other cabs with a twist
I am planning on doing the switch, thanks for the advice.
the g12c's I thought would be the most awesome speakers for my jtm but they are flubby. they do sound great on the 2204 and break up earlier than the v30's which I love. I am getting the sound I always wanted from the 2204 now. One more thing, I bought the 425A cab used hoping for broken in speakers. The cab was mint and the speakers like new....... the more I play them hard, the better they sound and maybe in a year, I can hook them up to the JTM45 and see what they do again.

Re: swapping cab speakers to other cabs with a twist
resale value means nothing to me....i'll do whatever it takes to get great tone....if that means mixing vintage with modern i'm there....i'll never sell some of the gear i own and resale value means nothing when i'm dead...so i'll enjoy the ride while i'm still here and let some body else cry about me "desecrating" vintage gear
in the time it took you to post that swap i would have had it done!
