Vinta 1960B cab, can I run on two speakers only?
Hi, looking for more clean head room with a JCM 800 2205 and a 1960 vintage cab with V30s. Can I switch the switch from mono to stereo and run on 2 speakers instead of 4. Is there any reason to do this and if so what would ne the result?

Re: Vinta 1960B cab, can I run on two speakers only?
The Marshall extension cabinet owners manual says that when 'stereo' mode is selected, the cabinet is split into two 8 Ohm 'halves' for use with a stereo power amp such as used in a rack system. When 'Mono' is selected you are offered two different inputs ( 4 Ohms or 16 Ohms) from which to choose. Always ensure you select the correct one to match the impedance of your amplifier and NEVER use both inputs at the same time when the cabinet is in ' Mono' mode. So I'm guessing that you could set your amp to 8 Ohms and use two of the 4 speakers. I don't know what the benefit would be.

Yeah, going from four speakers at 16 ohms to two speakers at 8 ohms will have the potential to give you less clean headroom, not more, since you'll be applying comparable power to half as many speakers.
