70's JMP 4x12?
Hi there,
Just acquired a Marshall 4x12 in a trade for my JCM800 Bass Series 2x15. The guy reckoned it was a '74 JMP cab. He said he bought the cab empty and put G12T-75's in and wired it himself, seems like a tidy enough job. The serial on the back is 02273. There are some pictures I just took of it here: Marshall cab pictures by joegarcia - Photobucket Anyone know if it's legit? Not entirely sure if I'm gonna keep it yet. I got it to go with my MF280b cab which is bigger and has Vintage 30's in. Will see how they work together I guess. When I first saw it I thought it was too small but I guess I'm just used to my oversized MF280b or 1960a's with castors. This has the big metal sockets on the bottom but no castors. Any info anyone might have about it and maybe it's rough value would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Joe |

Re: 70's JMP 4x12?
its a 70's cab, you can tell by the gold piping on the top. that was phased out around 1980/1979.
in the US they used checkerboard grill cloths up until 1979. and that is a US cab, you can tell by the silver tag on the back panel. they were white or black in UK. so i reckon its either a 1979 cab or a 1980 cab. but its possible the grill cloth has been changed, it looks like the baffle board is upside down to me. if the grill cloth has been changed it could be anywhere between 1972 and 1980. i think they changed from 9" logos to 11" logos around 1975/1976. i cant quite tell what size that one is from the pics. so i would have a look at that logo and see if it is glued on or if you see anything suspect about it. worst case scenario is it has been regrilled and had the baffle put in upside down. but it could also be original. you will have to do some investigating yourself. value would be about £200 ($312), theres nothing special about it in my opinion. |

Re: 70's JMP 4x12?
Interesting, thanks for the info. It's a 9" logo which seems a bit loose. The grill cloth is a bit saggy too so may have been redone I guess. Not sure I understand what you mean when you say the baffle is upside down.
Wasn't expecting it to be hugely valuable, just glad it's likely an actual Marshall and not a dodgy clone. |
