Re: "Marshall Ear"?
I've lost the high pitch frequencies - the spectrum my wife uses…
![]() Seriously, get good earplugs that reduce the frequencies evenly and don’t kill your sound!

Re: "Marshall Ear"?
I wear earplugs all the time.
When I went to the KISS concert, I got interviewed by some TV chick, and she asked me what I thought about loud music...and I was like, I dont care if its loud as long as its good. And then out of one of my pockets of my heavy metal denim jacket I take out this pair of earplugs lol, and then the chick was like "OH, a very educated rocker that cares about his ears" and then I had to show the camera guy how to put on the earplugs, and he was like getting his camera thing right in my ear...yeah. PRETTY FUN! the chick was fucking hot too, thats the only reason why I started talking to her, and then she did the interview lol. AND then my friend saw me on tv lol, and when I go back to school after a month, hes like "I SAW YOU ON TV!" hahahaha awesome!!!! I WAS ON TV AT A KISS CONCERT FUCK YEAH! But the point is, wear earplugs, even if you are not gonna listen the full tone of your amp, its better to keep your ears working. |

Re: "Marshall Ear"?
I'm hoping to start a band soon and been thinking about earplugs. First I just wanted to get okay ones, not the cheapest foam shit but slightly more expensive.
Then I thought: I've spent thousands on gear, might as well spend a hundred or two on some real, proper ear plugs. So the moment I get the band situation going I'm gonna get some of those 200$ (or whatever they are) earplugs. |

Re: "Marshall Ear"?
Good call. This clicking drives me nuts. Thinking about it makes it worse. I can trace it all back to the day we were jamming really loud and I kicked on the wah...BING...whoosh.

Re: "Marshall Ear"?
I had my hearing checked a few years ago (I'm 32) and I had some serious high frequency loss. Like you guys, I blame it on the cymbals!!!! All the drummers I know have serious hearing damage.
My biggest problem is, and I know it's dumb, I think amps sound their best when you are sitting right in front of it...about 4 or 5 feet away but level with the cab. And, they sound their best LOUD! So, I practice all the time in a small room with the amp screaming. I read Eric Johnson did the same thing which is why his hearing is so screwed up. Earplugs are best, but it muffles the sound. Oh well...use earplugs is the best advice I'm sure |

Re: "Marshall Ear"?
Right ear here too... I have a really hard time hearing in a crowd. I relate most of the damage to Marshalls as well as an incredibly loud drummer I played with for years in my 20's. The cymbals would ring for days after we played... Also some of this damage may be from wind from riding thousands of miles at high speed on motorcycles. I know my insurance wont help, so I wear an amplified stethoscope at work... kinda sucks listening to pediatric heart and lung sounds.

Re: "Marshall Ear"?
Both of mine are goofed....lots of car audio for me as well as guitar/drum/bass play. Consistent, low-grade ring when it's silent, like when I'm in the backcountry and it's dead calm....almost enough to keep me awake at night. I have a hard time hearing soft-spoken people in regular settings. I got the construction-grade earplugs and they work just fine.

Re: "Marshall Ear"?
been playing since 1975
![]() most of those years I was playing VERY loudly(Marshall MOSFETs and JCM 800s) I also have spent the majority of my adult lifes "day job" working as a finish carpenter where I also subjected my ears to high sound pressure levels(compressors, saws, routers, nailguns, etc.) I never wore hearing protection...ever At this point,I feel truly blessed that I can still hear!!!,that being said I do have significant mid-high frequency loss, and a continuous........................................ .......nonstop.................................... .................constant......................... ringing ![]() *WEAR YOUR HEARING PROTECTION KIDS*
