Laugh, be worried or be scared?
Iīve said it before, I confront questions and problem in a scientific manner, demanding evidence or at least the most probable explanation (Ockhams razor).
I live in a house in the forrest. There was an existing part, a summerhouse built from a kit in `76. The rest I have built myself, including a 6X8 meter garage and a close to 80m2 freestanding studio/rehearsal house. A couple of years some shit started to happen during the nights. I woke up feeling like someone was sitting on me, pulling down the quilt in my bed and other things. I always attributed it to me and my mind. Several studies have been made on the human mind and its ability to trick us. That is why we have the scientific method. We canīt be trusted. One night I woke up from a sort of rumbling sound. I laid there a while trying to fall asleep again. But I got pissed. What the **** was that? I was so sure I actually heard it! Got up. I thought that perhaps I should have a look. Maybe something fell and now something was leaking, like a bucket of paint or something. Walked around. Nothing. Turned around to go to bed and I saw my cats on the living room floor. You know how they cower, sort of pressing themselves to the ground when theyīre scared? Thatīs how I found them. Staring towards one corner of the room. I kneeled down talking to them. They didnīt leave the corner with their eyes. In that corner stood a Marshall ministack. I went to it, looking to the back of it, turning my head to the cats, talking to them. "Was it this that scared you?" They cowered even more, crawled backwards a bit. Moving the stack I noticed the sound it made. I started shaking the thing sideways. Reaching a pretty violent stage of shaking I could recognize the sound; it was the sound that woke me up. On another occasion I woke up to the sound of the front door being violently slammed shut, or at least thatīs what I thought. I got up, went to to door, and I had forgotten to lock it. After a few months (during the last week I slept with light on) the "visitations" stopped. Last night I woke up again. Someone was knocking outside my bedroom door, in the kitchen. After a few seconds the floorboards started making a sound as if someone was walking. I thought to myself "what the hell...". Wrote it off as my mind, a dream, an altered state of mind. Today when I was making something to eat I couldnīt help myself. I tried to knock on the kitchen bench made of oak. There it was. The same sound. A year ago my ex and I was sitting in the living room. She had one of those small dogs. Suddenly he starts barking. Looking at, you guessed it, the by now infamous corner. Then something weird happened. He continued barking but slowly turning his head, as if he was following someone slowly walking by. We just looked at each other and started laughing in a bewildered way, wondering what the hell that was. I have a bachelors degree in behavioural science (psychology and sociology). I am the first one to attribute these kind of experiences to the mind itself. But I tell you, itīs not easy when youīre lying there on your own, in the darkness, in the middle of the night, saying; "**** it, your mind is just playing tricks on you".

Re: Laugh, be worried or be scared?
I've seen too many weird things myself. I'm also a man of science but sometimes it's really hard explaining certain things.

Re: Laugh, be worried or be scared?
My father died 2 1/2 years ago. Up until about a year ago, my now 4 year old son would have conversations with him.
He'd be talking early in the morning and when I'd come in to see what was going on, he'd say he was talking to Opi (his name for his grandfather) and that he was sitting at the foot of his bed. He hasn't had that lately though. I think most of us have the ability to see/notice things, but as we grow older we "shut it off". Something like that.... |

Re: Laugh, be worried or be scared?
It couldn't have been an animal taking a habit of rubbing against a corner of your house or something like that? They don necessarily have to be elk-size to make a lot of noise. Even a fox can make a lot of noise. You live in the woods after all, in Sweden. There is a lot of wildlife there.

Re: Laugh, be worried or be scared?
So, the home you live in right now ... you built the entire thing, w/the exception of an existing summerhouse built from a kit? Is the existing part (the kit from 76) attached to the main part of the home that you've built yourself? Basically, have you incorporated what was there before, into your own home designs?

Re: Laugh, be worried or be scared?
Could be a ton of things. I do not believe in ghosts. Electrical magnetic interference, house shifting, faults under the house, gases escaping from decaying matter under the house etc. Your right the human mind plays wicked tricks on us especially when we are stressed, tired or malnutritioned. EMI can cause serious health issues in anyone. Some people are more sensitive to it than others. Proper grounding and shielding in areas can prevent EMI. Florecsent lights or truely horrible and produce electrical fields that can wreak havok on just about any and everything. Not to mention they are really shitty on your eyes.
If not likely an EMI than it could be other things. Dreaming could just be the culprit. Maybe your diet is causing strange dreams. I know spicy food does it for me before bed. It would explain the sounds your hearing or you think your hearing. Animals are a strange lot too they react violently to just about anything. Hell even barometric pressure could be a culprit. The explained can usually be explained with significant research or just common sense depending on the situation. I will believe in ghosts when I see one. |

Here's one little poltergeist that kept me awake for a couple of night, made a sound like a party going on in the garage next to the house.

Re: Laugh, be worried or be scared?
An sometimes our pets react to OUR emotions.
If you're really stressed, or pissed off, or some sort of strong emotion, it can be refelected on the pet/pets. Sometimes when my g/f is on her period and she's having some sort of "meltdown" the cat acts kinda crazy, jumping all over the place, her tail all puffed out, jumping off the walls. It can be a little funny, I'll admit ![]() Another example (my g/f can be a little jumpy sometimes)... If there's a weird thump or noise that's caused by some neighbor (we live in an apartment), she kinda jumps, eys wide open and says "WHAT WAS THAT NOISE??", and the cat has a simiar reaction to the thump, eyes wide open and alert, staring at where the thump came from. Just a basic example. If there's a similar situation, and I'm with the cat by myself, she can turn her head towards where the thump came, but instantly looses attention, but if I react in a way kinda jumpy and if I were to have that reaction (heart rate increased, alrertness), I'm sure she would be in a similar "mode". |

Re: Laugh, be worried or be scared?
Have you ever looked into the history of the property you purchased? Specifically, are you familiar w/the folks who lived there prior to your having purchased the property? Not just the folks immediately prior to you, but perhaps even a little back from there (depending on how often the property has changed hands)?

Re: Laugh, be worried or be scared?
It seems to have been a place where they took cows in the summer some hundred years ago, the grounds I mean. Prior to the summerhouse I donīt think there ever was anything standing here, but I could check with the farmer, his family has been here for ages.
I found a coin from 1800-something in the ground when I built the house. On a note. I used to work at the Hertz car rental at the airport some years ago. A workfriend came over once and he started asking questions about the grounds and the house. I sensed something so I asked him why. He was reluctant to tell me but he trusted me so he said that he saw a woman just near the house where the forrest begins. Looked like she was washing clothes in a stream and she was singing. He said he saw stuff like that all the time but didnīt like talking about it. I donīt know what to make of such statements. I canīt see such things. But on the other hand that is not evidence for the non existens of "something else".

Re: Laugh, be worried or be scared?
Our house has a poltergeist. Most of the times it just a little game of hiding stuff. You will go to get your keys in the same place they always are...and they're not there. You go crazy looking...both you and your wife will scour the area where they are supposed to be and they are not there. You turn away for a second...look back...and they will be right on top in plain view. After about the thousandth time this sort of thing happened we admitted what was going on and don't worry about it.
...but on other times they help find things. We lost our camera the other day. We didn't use it since holidays and hoped it wasn't left behind. We looked everywhere it could be and where it is often put...and it wasn't there. Looked away for a moment...turned around and it was sitting on top of a chair a foot away from us. When this happens we always just say "Thank You" An no...it's not that we just missed it. I have felt on top of things and know that it wasn't there a minute ago, and then it is in plain sight. Not just hidden under a piece of paper or something...it is always suddenly there in plain view.

I have invested too much time, money and love in this to ever move. Also, I like it too much. Getting away from all the people and buzz of mainstream life.

Re: Laugh, be worried or be scared?
Les, I'd look into obituaries for owners / residents of the property going back as far as the records will provide ... might be nothing, but it might also start providing some insight.

Re: Laugh, be worried or be scared?
But what to do if one finds something?
Damn. Guess I have to talk to the farmer... He would have said something though... Iīm kind of caught in the middle. I consider myself agnostic in some matters. Where I donīt have evidence I simply say "I donīt know". Ghosts. Iīve never seen or heard anything being completely awake and clear. But I have to admit there are many others who claim they have. We know of the existence of things today because we can measure them. Before that we didnīt. Who knows what we will know tomorrow...

Re: Laugh, be worried or be scared?
Forgot to mention. THere are 2 VERY old small classical Swedish houses called "torp" for neighbours. They where given to those who enlisted in the military in the 1700-1800 i think coupled with a piece of ground so they could grow food.

Re: Laugh, be worried or be scared?
I don't believe in what is commonly reffered to as "ghosts", but I do question any residual energy given off or emitted from a body. I don't associate it was any sort of being with intentions, but more like an 'energy echo', if you will.
Everything has energy, and I guess that there can be traces of what was once there, but if that were even to happen, I wouldn't know if that residual energy would fade away in seconds, minutes, days, months, etc. |

Re: Laugh, be worried or be scared?
With the risk of sounding goofy, I think there is/are things we donīt have any clue to what they are. We are making progress and discovering new things almost every day. That said, it goes against everything I believe that we could "survive" death. Would be so interesting to see what we know in a hundred or a thousand years.

Re: Laugh, be worried or be scared?
I dont want to scare you but some spirits can cook your brain if it wanted to.
Be nice to it but firm and ask it to leave. Explain that its your house and it should leave right away. If youve ever woken up with a runny nose, then thats more spirit shenanigans. Trust me youre better off with it out of there, but understand that they can sometimes feel a bit trapped there, and they can be very depressed and lost if theyve just 'died" so dont get angry with it but be firm and make sure it knows that its your house now.

Re: Laugh, be worried or be scared?
Yes. Weve had spirits in the house.
I saw my first spirit/ghost when I was about 8. Maybe even more before that that I dont remember. I had several encounters. That leaves no doubt about ghosts/spirits with me. But I'd rather not go into all the details right now. Like it or not mankind has had knowledge of spirits for far longer than than it hasnt. Go and talk to a Red Indian and he'll give you some stories. I ask them to leave, in a strong but understanding way. Simply that.

Re: Laugh, be worried or be scared?
Get a sage bundle, light it until it smolders and go to every corner in your house.
It's supposed to drive out unwanted spirits.
