The definition of "nerd"

This is sick. I can actually just sit an stare at the turretboards of my amps being totally transfixed by the caps and stuff. I´m definitely going to build an amp one day
I can also stare at the tubes in complete awe. How ****ed up is that?

Re: The definition of "nerd"

Don't get yer nouns mixed up. That should read "Geek"! Nerds come with a social stigma. Geeks are the ones who really know where it's at!
That being said, I've been called both and not been offended.
I guess that says something about me, eh?

With all the crazy technology whe have now I still sit and wonder how someone came up with the vacuum tube so long ago, not to mension actually built the first ones. LOL! Then I think, wow we went to the moon on a space shuttle who's electronics all ran on vacuum tubes! Pretty crazy when you think about it nowadays.

True!
I actually wonder about this in movies where the space crew is frozen for years, and when they come back, the craft/shuttle will be all old school for the earthlings

Imagine if the moon landing in '69 was actually a space mission that the crew was frozen, then when they come back we would see their shuttle as an 'antique', and they would see the Earth's current technology as insanely advanced!

Re: The definition of "nerd"

Count me in...

I have all my parts to do some modding on my PTP wired 1987, one day I will find the time...But for now I just look at the caps and resistors and I am actually understanding these things a little better.

I am going to try the shared cathode circuit, it is split now. I am upgrading all the resisitors to metal film, and polyester caps. I will be adding a PPIMV and doing a cap job. Can you say complete overhaul...

But first, I have a pedal to upgrade and a 5005 Lead 12 to fix, so my soldering skills can improve before I tackle my baby.

Damn, I'm a geek. But no one understands this stuff but you guys! And I am glad I am not the only one...

My take is that it has nothing to do with nerdiness.

It just shows that amps-guitars-music is one of the things you should be involved with.

For my day job I tell people details about all kinds of high-tech gear relating to another industry. It doesn't really interest my soul.

But if I just see a photo of a music store or an amp or a guitar.... it instantly affects something in my organs.

Isaac Newton, the man who is thought by many to have been one of the smartest men who ever lived, died a virgin.

He also wrote one of the most significant scientific/mathematical publications in history....when he was 26 years old.

He invented calculus just so he could solve a problem.

How's this for nerdy...I've had NASA TV on all day, listening to all the press conferences and mission updates for the new rover that's gonna land on Mars late tomorrow night. I've also been debating staying up to watch it as it happens even though I have to be at work Monday morning.

New rover on Mars? Completely missed that. I probably wont have to ask for links, knowing you you´ll start spamming immediately.

But you're Swedish, right? Snuse .... no, must be Surstromming!

Never in my life have I tasted anything remotely close to that. I had to try it twice as I couldn't believe it the first time! Neither could my neighbours who were very unhappy about me opening the tin.

What's Midsummer without surstromming??? OK, crayfish is better Washed down with schnapps.

Snuse, that stuff is lethal... the one and only time I tried it I fell straight over and couldn't walk for an hour.

Still love herring and 50 different sauces

We loved living in Kungsholmen. Very sad to have left, would live there again in a heartbeat.
