Worst drought in 50 years in the US

I just heard on the news that there's a drought in the US, the worst in 50 years. Are you seeing any effects already from an economic point of view?

In Florida where I live we've had a ton of rain this year. We're getting off easy compared to most of the country for a change.

Re: Worst drought in 50 years in the US

It's been rather dry in NYC this year, but the levels in the reservoir look ok to me (they were quite low a couple months ago). It's been raining here for the past couple of days, and it's expected for the next several (maybe a break over the weekend).

Very dry up in Canada too, at least in Southern Ontario.

Re: Worst drought in 50 years in the US

Economic? Not yet. We're just starting to get some rain after having none for 6 or 7 weeks, but it's obvious if you look at any cornfields that it's taken a toll. My parents have 100 acres that they rent out for farming, but they'll still get paid.

In my area, we've been on a watering ban, so our landscaping, yard, and garden just looks like crap.

My dad's garden actually turned out pretty good this year, since they're on well water, so there's no ban. He actually opened his vegetable stand out at their house yesterday. He's not going to make any money with it, but that's just because he falls asleep when he's waiting for people to stop. He was inside taking a nap when I drove by yesterday.

Just my water bill going up! For the year, we are like 20 inches under normal.

I am saving money on fuel as I no longer have a lawn.

It is pretty damned bad where I live. The rain has came and went a couple of times passing us by over the last 2 months with temps- 95-104. NOT common.

Talk about a 'reach a round!'
If I could send you water I would,we're sick of it!

EDIT:As in such a small 'island surrounded by sea' with so much downfall makes you wonder, how much longer will we stay 'surfaced!'

Re: Worst drought in 50 years in the US

bad enough here that some farmers are getting told to just mow down the crops and stop wasting time/money on them.

this winter is going to be ROUGH economically because of the bad harvest. expect the price of everything in the US to go up, especially in the midwest

Oh yeah everything is fine, it wasn't a bad flood. Just a lot of water in the roads and the creek in my back yard was overflowing

Thanks for checking!

Re: Worst drought in 50 years in the US

We're having a drought here in the Northwest US too!

It's been sunny for 3 days!!!!! That's two more than what we had last year.
