I don't think we have it that bad over here,on average when I get home from work there'll be 2 or 3 missed calls & they're all usually 08 starting numbers!
It annoys me when the same place will ring everyday!
My personal worse one was the "If you could replace all windows & doors for free.."
In the end I picked up,said what the woman was going to say & said "Look love if all my windows & doors NEEDED replacing,I'd be ringing YOU!This is getting silly remove me from your database!"
And she did!
One down 49 to go!

Yeah but at least the telemarketers are A) employed and B) your not the telemarketer...I just learn to either ignore or if I get caught answering then I know exactly what to say politely so that the conversation ends nicely in 15 seconds.

I just don't like how they get my number and will never take you off the list...I go to great extent to try and make sure no one has my number, my work doesn't even have my number lol.

I currently don;t get any calls but my wife gets blasted lol

Actually my mate at works wife entered one of these 'Britains Got Talent' phone in competitions (you win loads of gadgets etc.) & as soon as she'd done it he was unindated!
So not only did it cost £1.50 for a phone call he's getting his chops busted every other hour to boot!

Over here the general idea is that Australia are REALLY strict with this sort of thing & we're all giving it "Why aren't we more like Australia!" when in reality you seem to be getting 'invaded' as bad as we are!
It IS a scarey thought though,I mean how many ants can crawl into a badgers hole before it becomes an ants nest!
Plus if none of them are working,how much 'support' can be given before there's nothing left to give & we're all out of work/penniless!

These evil bastards got worse and even starting calling and hanging up.

None of you guys can complain until you've come to Canada at least Toronto anyway...****, I don't give a shit what color, nationality, religion whatever you are, don't matter, speak ****in English (in Canada), especially if you hold a job that involves interacting with people.

So many places of business and these ****s just nod their head. some of them work in banks and stuff and have no clue what your talking about.

Retail stores, convenience stores & cabs - many times, no English! You gotta ****in act out what you want like it's charades or something...

Just saying...

I am very pro american, many people put you guys down for being a melting pot like it's a bad thing, not me, I totally agree 100%, up here we are quick to not give a **** which results in loss of culture and the basics of being Canadian, like speaking English!

I won't go into the details of what was said, but it only took me a few calls to make them stop for good ... essentially, I used the most vile / disturbing / frightening language you could possibly imagine ... quite literally the type of language that makes you sick to your stomach (and i mean this in a literal sense, as i felt sick treating someone that way).

What prompted me was a series of telemarketing calls I had been receiving for someone listed under a different name ... I kept explaining I wasn't the person they were looking for, and asked if they would please remove me from the list (which of course never happened). Finally, I asked again, and instead of saying something to me, the girl on the other end of the phone started laughing at me, and laughing at my request to please be removed, and then she just hung up on me while still laughing ... I was so enraged that I swore at that moment any telemarketer that ever called me again would pay with a verbal assault that they would carry with them for a long time ... a verbal assault that quite literally makes them go home at the end of the day and say '**** it, this job isn't worth it ... I quit'.

Final score:

Me - 1

Telemarketers - 0

So yeah, if you have the stomach for verbal brutality, it works.

I've done that, speak to them and pretend not to speak English, or not making sense just ranting some jumble...Or keep asking them to repeat themselves. Say 'oh that sounds interesting, can you say that again?' but then keep replying with that, they hang up on me more than I do them lol

We have a "do not call" list. It cut down on those calls at least 90% for me. Registered Charities, your own bank...and of course politicians...can still call, but for anyone else they are not supposed to. If they do, you simply say "I am on the do not call list...remove my phone number from your calling list". If they call again they get a big fine. It actually works pretty well.

Yeah, there are a lot of immigrants in Canada...but English wasn't exactly the original language here or the USA...but yes, I agree 100% that immigrants need to speak English. In Quebec, they want them to speak French.

The official language of Ontario is English, but if it is a government service available to the public...they have to offer French too...as that is an official language of Canada. I have a big problem with one person coming here legitimately...then bringing over all their relatives, who get of the plane and demand Health Care and Welfare the moment they land...and demand interpreters too because they don't speak a word of English, and never will. If you are going to immigrate to a Country...accept the Culture...don't take advantage of it.

You'd always know it is them calling as they will always call at dinner time or during football matches.
The solution was ever so simple:
Phone rings.
I pick up. In the cleanest possible Dutch I'll answer:
"A good evening! Welcome to Counter Revolutionary Action's activist's support. This is Gerrit speaking. What may I do for you today"
Long silence and the call is then dropped.
I haven't had calls in years.
Also did it a couple of times over at my mom's. (She lives right next door)

my phone has rang three times with telemarketer calls since starting to read thru this thread after dinner time. What the heck? I have an unlisted number.
Does any of that type of calling really work for their business? Most people hate those guys. I just dont answer my home phone anymore. I let every single one go to voicemail. I call back the people who I know. The rest.....delete!
