Iron Maiden live last night...My thoughts.

This was my first Maiden show. I've seen enough concert footage over the years to kind of know what to expect from their shows. MAAAAN, they still threw some surprises in there! Would have NEVER expected to hear "Afraid to Shoot Strangers" live! Considering "Fear of the Dark" was the first Maiden record I owned...It was definitely a special moment for me.

They were on fire, so good, the tones were all their, though I thought their mix was a bit lacking. Then again, things may have sounded a bit clearer had I been wearing earplugs, but come on, if it's too loud, you're too old right???

Easily the best concert going experience I've yet had. The used "Doctor, Doctor" by UFO as their intro song, and that hit the PA, no bullshit, I started shaking because I was so excited.

I know they're doing thew whole "retrospective" tour thing, but would have been nice to hear some of the newer stuff, especially off "Brave New World" And maybe even off "Virtual XI" or "X-Factor" Bruce singing those songs just takes them to another stratosphere (if you've not heard the version of "The Clansman" from Rock in Rio, you're missing something special)

I'll post pictures later. My girlfriend took a few really nice shots on her Iphone that came out really nice.

Best thing ever...I think I converted her! She hadn't really heard Maiden before, and she LOVED the show. By the middle of "Run to the Hills", she was screaming the chorus!

I know more Britney Spears songs than theirs. Maybe I'll get into them one day.

Glad you had a good time though man! nothing like seeing a decent band..

Awesome, man! You know, I've seen more bands than I can remember through the late 80s and through the 90's, but I've never seen Maiden. Sounds like I need to before it's too late! Love that last part about your girlfriend.

IMO that band keeps getting better through the years. I know Dave Murray and Nicko McBrain are part of the 50 years of Loud concert lineup.

Re: Iron Maiden live last night...My thoughts.

It was an ill fated trip to the show from the start however. Originally, I did buy the tickets for her and I, and because of her being under contract to the theater company she's working for, she couldn't go. So it ended up being me and my brother.

On the way to the show though, one of the radiator hoses in his car started leaking, and we couldn't make it more than 5 minutes without having to put more water in to keep the engine cool.

Just so happens, the woman's show got canceled for that night, due to that storm that ripped through the night before, and the theater didn't have power, so she said she would pick us up, and take us down for the show. My brother however was so pissed off and frustrated, that he was like "I don't even wanna go anymore, I just wanna take my car home and get drunk and forget about how much money I have to put into parts to get this car fixed" So, we met her right before the exit for I95, and she picked me up and away we went. HAHA I promised my bro I'd get him a tour shirt, and I did just that for him.

We were late though, We showed up just as Alice Cooper was finishing his set.

Interesting the way it turned out. Best 200 bucks I've ever spent!

I'm seeing them twice this year and I will be front row twice! I am also going outside their hotel here in ottawa to see if I can meet them. I really want to get my signature guitar signed.

Dave Murray is probably my biggest guitar influence. No one plays like that guy!

Re: Iron Maiden live last night...My thoughts.

Ya know...the other thing I told my girlfriend before the show was this... She was like "Oh, I'm not going to jump around and get all crazy like I know you will" and I looked her dead in the eyes and said "Look, if Bruce Dickinson tells you to do something, you better ****ing do it. When he yells "SCREAM FOR ME WASHINGTON" you better ****ing do it!!!"

HAHA

I also told her about the machine gun thing that Steve Harris does with his bass, she saw it and got super excited!

You took some great pictures, but, what the hell did Bruce do to his hair? He looks like Bela Lugosi when he played Dracula.
