Copyrights, backing tracks and youtube.

I understand and accept copyright laws with actual material that is subject to ownership and distribution by said corporations like Warner, but this is different I believe. I'm wondering if you agree with me or disagree with me.

So take Hotel California by the Eagles.
A musician buys the backing track, it's just a lick library backing track.
I record my guitar playing on top of it and upload it to youtube.
It gets taken down by Warner.

Are they seriously making it illegal for us to do this? I'm just so wound up about it all! So it's a criminal offense to post a video of you playing guitar on top of a backing track?

Do you guys believe it should be allowed or what?

I think it's so sincerely harsh and out of line with musics good graces that they take down a video like this.. it's just pure admiration for the song and I learned the solo on guitar and paid for the backing track.. and yet I can't post it on youtube? - so harsh in my opinion.

What about my other videos with backing tracks, why have they been allowed? - it wreaks of bullshit and I'm angry.

So many others upload videos too with backing tracks, and they're allowed?

If I file a claim against the copyright, I could be sued for doing so and it suggest seeking legal aid.

So should backing tracks be allowed to be used?

EDIT: Are they seriously classing a public performance as a youtube video of a kid in his room rocking out on a Les Paul? .. ****ing wow! I hate these pigs.

Desperate measures by desperate organisations, they have been ripping off the general public for years and they can feel their grip waning as the internet and other forms of media out of their control take over. **** the ****ing ****ers i say

I just think it's a real sad situation.

How a big rich corporation can affect me in this way. They've squished my expression of love for a song.. I merely used a backing track that's not even owned by Warner!

It's Roadrock music that owns the backing track. However, maybe Roadrock have rights to produce the backing track, and furthermore Warner can band third parties from Roadrock themselves using it in a public space. Maybe that's how they've come to the technicality of basically making it criminal activity on my behalf, to the point I could be sued if I upload it again.

I'm not entirely sure of my rights.. but who the hell knows their rights to the fullest extent? - it's part of the lovely system we live in. It's all totally confusing to the point we give up.

Re: Copyrights, backing tracks and youtube.

i feel anyone can use my stuff with my permission but, if there's money to be made then i'd have to get my due percentage of 50% minimum, lol.

If someone's just using it to play with i don't see a problem. Now if they're using your intellectual property to make a buck and not give you a cut that's stealing imo.

That said, noone'll use my work anyway, lol. I'm an ASCAP member and it helps. Check them out if you're not already privy to them and they can give you great insight into the business etc.

Re: Copyrights, backing tracks and youtube.

What I want to know is, how does everyone else get away with it? even my other videos are okay, and I've used backing tracks owned by RoadRock music.

I might take it down and re-upload it under a new title, description etc.

If anyone can help me get around this, possible with a simple solution, I'd love to know.

some people are more stringent and have different deals than others and sometimes they just don't catch it.

I think what you went through is ****ing shitty though to be polite about it.

If someone wanted to use my stuff for a backing track because they enjoyed my work i'd take it as an extreme compliment and would support it 110%.

I feel what happened to you is just a dick move personaly but, again some deals are different and sometimes it just doesn't get noticed. this kind of thing does make me angry though i admit. it looks bad for the artist AND the comapnies involved.

to me, the fans should be treated like royalty. That's just how i feel. I hate as an example when i try to FREELY endorse someone or something an i get the cold shoulder.

I'm not asking for anything in return but, simple respect or appreciation for the fact that i enjoy the product/music so much i'd invest my personal time and resources in it but, some people are just assholes i guess.

I'm eccentric too though so my feelings are very much my own i realize that but, i feel anyone willing to invest in ME in anyway deserves some investment back even if it's a simple thank you.

Re: Copyrights, backing tracks and youtube.

I think alot of it depends on the artist, or who owns the music. I've done tons of covers and most of them have been fine...I even had a comment from one of the musicians on one of them, as they liked what I did with it...
But I did have one removed by youtube because of copyright. Exactly the same thing...me doing a copy of the song...not making any money off it...just showing my interpretation of the song.

Re: Copyrights, backing tracks and youtube.

Wow they ****ing deleted my video! what a bunch of ****ing assholes!

The backing track I used is owned by ę 2007 Roadrock Music International Ltd. but some how Warner can still get it deleted. Such a shame this has happened to me..

So it's illegal to:-

Buy a backing track, play over it and put it on youtube.

I've been a member on youtube since 2005, and I've seen it go from cool to the most ****ing ridiculous piece of shit out there.. I hate the advertising and I hate their copyright laws... what bit of ****ing difference does this make to the ****ing world if this video is either there or not?.... it matters a lot to me.. but in the scheme of things.. it's such a petty thing!

One day they'll start charging for us to use it.. and anything else like a video host for free will be taken down by youtube and its owners, so there won't be 'another option'.

So from here on you.. **** YOUTUBE!

It's the first recording I've done with my new amp and I spent a while learning that solo and now this has happened it's seriously put a dampener on my outlook on music itself, both in reality and on the internet.

Why is this happening to us?

I do know that The Eagles screwed Don Felder with contracts and stuff.. and that Warner are a lunatic corporation... and that together you get a pure combination of corporate mentality, but this takes the piss.

Don Felder got totally ruined by Joe Walsh and the others in the Eagles, such a shame.

I now have a strike on my account and I'm now at risk of having my account deleted along with all of my videos.
