The Greatest Infantry Speech EVER!!
I love this speech. This is the Battalion Commander for an Infantry Training Battalion in Ft. Benning, GA giving the main speech to a group of graduates. I go back to watch this from time to time. And for those of you who ever wondered what it's like to be in the Infantry, this is as close of a glimpse as I can offer. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Re: The Greatest Infantry Speech EVER!!
I can't express into words what I would give to gear up and join all my Infantry brothers. There is no brotherhood like the brotherhood forged in battle.

Re: The Greatest Infantry Speech EVER!!
Military vs. Civilian Friends:
CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Tell you not to do something stupid when drunk. MILITARY FRIENDS: Will post 360 security so you dont get caught. CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Call your parents Mr. and Mrs. MILITARY FRIENDS: Call your parents mom and dad. CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Hope the night out drinking goes smoothly, and hope that no one is late for the ride home. MILITARY FRIENDS: Know some wild stuff will happen, and set up rally points and an E & E route. CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Bail you out of jail and tell you what you did was wrong. MILITARY FRIENDS: Will be sitting next to you saying, Damn...we f**ked up...but hey, that was fun!" CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Borrow your stuff for a few days then give it back. MILITARY FRIENDS: Steal each other's stuff so often nobody remembers who bought it in the first place. CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Will listen to your relationship problems and hope it works out for you. MILITARY FRIENDS: Will listen to you over a long hard road march, and will help you straighten it out better than Dr. Phil. CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Know a few things about you. MILITARY FRIENDS: Could write a book with direct quotes from you. CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Would knock on your door. MILITARY FRIENDS: Walk right in and say, "I'm home!" CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Will wish you had enough money to go out that night, and are sorry you couldn't come. MILITARY FRIENDS: Will share their last dollar with you, drag you along, and try to work free drinks all night. CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Want the money they loaned you back next week. MILITARY FRIENDS: Can't begin to remember who owes who money after taking care of each other for so long. CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Will tell you "They'd take a bullet for you." MILITARY FRIENDS: Will actually take a bullet for you. |

Re: The Greatest Infantry Speech EVER!!
When I was going through OSUT training at Ft. Knox to be an M1 Abrams crewmember, they blared George C. Scott's speech from the movie Patton through our barracks PA system. This would be played first thing in the morning when they kicked our asses out of bed to start the day. Listening to Patton grumbling about greasing the tracks of our tanks with our enemy's guts while staring at a shiny white tiled floor doing push ups at 0330: it really sets the tone for the day.

No disrespect to anyone who has been in the forces but I've just watched a tv program on our officer training school at Sandhurst and I have to say NO ONE would ever order me around like that.
My son joined the army as a medic but has thankfully come out after 5 years and is now training as a paramedic. His tour of Afghanistan was the worst 6 months of my life. |

Initial training is like that. It's just to break you down to build you up to be part of a cohesive team. It's nothing personal. But day to day life in the active military isn't nearly as rigid and regimented. Relations with your peers and supervision is like working in any other business really.

Re: The Greatest Infantry Speech EVER!!
No disrespect, but my favorite "infantry speech" has got to be Satan's speech to the thunderstuck, laid out troops in the poem "Paradise Lost" who know they've lost the fight and now must contemplate their new form and new reality. Like I said, no disrespect, but if you read it, you will wonder just how hard it was for Milton to write it. "Paradise Lost" has many some military experiences with great sincereity.

Re: The Greatest Infantry Speech EVER!!
With all due respect to those who genuinely defended our freedom and our culture in years and centuries past, I believe today's military industrial complex is little better than a state-sanctioned industry designed to protect corporate and state interests.
There is very little defending of freedom going on. I feel very, very bad for the noble and brave soldiers who mistakenly believe they are doing the right thing by their loved ones and their nation. Most are just pawns in the corporate game, cannon fodder for their phony wars and oil crusades. Again, no disrespect to anyone who has served, but I think the true purpose has been hijacked by the corporatocracy.
