Couple Threatened With $500-Per-Meeting Fines For Home Bible Study

Does anyone else have a problem with this in America. The fact that they were finded for this tells me the US Constitution is dead in California.

Does anyone honestly think if this were Musliums doing the same in their home a single word would be spoken about it?

I am willing to help pay their fines until it goes to court, which IMO will fail in California knowing the activist judges there.

I would think some agreement could be made, maybe the people could park farther away, or car pool or something. A compromise to make the neighbors happy.

If they are going to have the meetings twice a week, they ought to figure something out, out of respect.

But yea, fining them is absolutely ****ed. That's just stupid. I could see this going to the supreme court.

California is amazing, untill you look into the state government here.

California is ****ed up, and I doubt it will be fixed anytime soon.

That could be a legitimate issue, but by the sounds of it the fines are not making the parking a issue only that they are meeting there.

I did a Google earth of their home, there is about a 10 acre empty field across the street.

probably because you can't legaly park anywhere you want but, you acn mostly "meet" wherever" beauracratic legal loophole basicaly.

I haven't had access to the article though to base any opinion on it. There mnay well be good reason like, the neighbors mentioned it repeatedly and they weren't respecting their space or some other such reason. Like i said, i haven't read it yet so i don't know. IF it's what you're assuming (i'm assuming you're assuming,lol) that they're being penalized based on the fact that their Christian/religious and the neighbors don't like it etc then yeah that's foul.

I'm not religious but, in THAT regard i'm all for people following their religious beliefs if it works for them and doesn't impede on me or mine.

This "article" doesn't go very far into the situation. I know it says that people have written letters in support of the hosts, but it doesn't say if there have been any complaints filed by neighbors regarding traffic issues. As a reader, I'd like to hear more from the city to determine if the city does indeed have a bias against the hosts, or whether there is documented, legitimate concerns regarding in relation to their meetings.

It's unfortunate that the city chose to make it seem like the issue is religion. Perhaps the city would have best been served if they found another way to address any possible complaints under more practical concerns. Until I read a more balanced article on this situation, it sounds to me like a bunch of dumb asses who don't know how to properly organize their events and a lazy city government who didn't take the time to find a better way to address the issues.

@ op: I don't think this one article is enough reason to start hating on CA by starting a thread that says "wtf is wrong with CA. Lord knows we Californians don't always make great decisions, but neither do people in other states like Oregon.

No Oregon in some cases is worse, thanks to the migration of California whackos in search of cheaper real estate. In fact I would argue that Eugene Oregon is a close second to Marin County as the most populated communists in the US.
