As far as Jake E. Lee goes - to me, his absolute best work was with "Badlands" on those occasions when he played that Strat DIRECTLY into a Marshall "Plexi"... With Zero stompboxes on the floor to screw with the signal; i.e., nothing to hide behind...
That guy played guitar like a '53 Buick Dynaflow transmission shifted gears... "Real Smooth"...

Fuck'n a right!
Jake's playing in Badlands with that raw Marshall tone that was soooo not polished over by the studio thankfully was plain sex through a guitar & amp. I luved his playing in Badlands.
I do also enjoy Zakk's play'n in the early days before alcohol dooshed the R&R flame in him. There are some good early vids of him playing, even cool acoustic stuff. He had that raw playing pentatonic style I dig too. It was nice and aggressive with tasty phrasing. I listen to him now especially live and even his tone is drowning(chorus)let alone his aggressive more tentative playing. I think its almost night & day difference judging his playing from early and now.
I heard a clip of Gus playing with Ozzy recently and he was hitting the Squeals more than Zakk does. Over done and too much like the original. Gus needs to play like himself.
