All I can tell you is before I shipped her to VooDoo it was really brittle sounding. I had purchased (2) EH12ax7's. I didn’t notice much difference. It came back from VooDoo with an EH12ax7 and a Groove Tube 12ax7 gold pin in her. I should have opened it up to see if I could tell what they did. They're kinda secretive about what it is they really do. Truthfully, I thought all they did was change the tubes because it was still really noisy when she came back. The guys at VooDoo told me to keep the patches volumes to no more than 15. Then keep the output knob at 9 o'clock. Anything above that brings on the noise. My clean tone is incredible. Beautiful bell tones. I'll share some of my settings with ya once yours arrives. Actually, I have a spreadsheet of EVEYONES patches that I could find on the internet. Some are great some are... um... some are ok. It all depends on the amp you're sending it through. I'm also finding out that volume has a lot to do with the tone. As with all Marshall's, she gets better the more you push her.
So that’s my two cents on VooDoo. It definitely came back a better, more controllable preamp. Would I recommend the mod? Yes.

Kendall, thank you very, very much for such an honest answer. In all of my internet forum "travels", you are the very first person to EVER admit to hearing changes and it's related effects. I've had several Cameron-modded Marshalls over the years, and I would swear that NONE of them are alike - all "Jose mods" (for better or for worse), with tones from full on VH1 to Mesa Boogie II C+, and all in JMP/JCM800 2203's. Part of this is Mark's ability to get huge variations from a relativity narrow tone spectrum, but the other is due to the way he's "hearing" stuff now vs 10 years ago.

I've owned 2 JMP-1's in the past, and have a really good idea of the buzzyness that you've referred to - especially at stage volume. I too "typically" dial down the preamp volume and let the pwr amp do the heavy lifting (and determining the amount of "cut"). Of course having a Marshall (Drake/Dagnall) OT/PT is going to really determine how much of that Marshall-like "cut" is there in the final mix. However, IF I get this kind of a "tone"- about 0:09 secs in - then I'll be a pretty "happy" camper

thanks again for the info, and I'm expecting the preamp to arrive on Friday of this week.
Best regards,
