I have tried many Marshall pedals and the ones I prefere are:
- Old English black Guv'nor: The best IMHO. Lots of gain but works extremely well with a low gain too. 3 very efficient eq. knobs. Gary Moore used one for recording "Still got the blues" and "After hours". You can even see of of those in a picture of the Still got the blues album with a Bluesbreaker RI amp.
It is very important to look for the big black ones (older) and then look for the ones made in UK because later they moved the production to Taiwan and even they look the same I find them very different in tone being taiwanese models thin and sterile.
Believe me, I had about 7 Guv'nors at once and sold all Taiwanese keeping only the Brits
- Old black Bluesbreakers: Very good. Not a lot of gain in the same league of the Tubescreamer. They work specially well with Fender amps. I use them as the way to "Marshallize" the Fenders.
I have tried many of them and sold everyone except above models.
