I picked up a vs102r six months ago and it's really loud - way lounder than my MG100dfx combo that I sold. Try a new tube. The cool thing is that you only need to replace one - should run you ten or twenty bucks and you should be good on that for at least five or ten years. If that's not it, I'd blow out all the pots and jacks with contact cleaner and make sure there's not a kink in the speaker wire or cable. If you're still having problems it could be a solder joint that's broken loose. Anything else is beyond me. Trobleshoot it for the "duh" stuff too - like a bad instrument cable, dying battery in a pedal or a short in the guitar.
