The problem here will be sheer volume. To get "that" tone with 1959 type circuit it gets loud!! You need to pair it with an attenuator of some description.
The 2204 is a little to hard sounding (especially with a strat) and gainy for those tones IMO.
You've mentioned the silver jub and major are out of question, but unfortunaltely a 1959/1987 will be a bit pricey too, even the RIs.

Well, I'm not really sure what my price range is, I'm just considering all options right now, cause I know either way if I want a good amp I'm going to have to save. Maybe someone could give me some prices on these amps?
