I see your piont, but for me this isn't a hobby it is part of my job and some of the crap I have seen that passes for music and performance boggles my mind. I say practice and rehearse your ass off then let the listener or audience decide.
If artists want people to take rock&roll and musicians in general more seriously they should look at the big picture. I wish some musicians would put themselves in the listeners shoes once in a while. Most people want the music to touch them like nothing else, to take them away from their problems and the daily grind, not have to endure some jimmyjerkoff who thinks a Marshall, Fender or any logo is going to accomplish it.
I see family during vacations and it's always: "Oh, there he is, the musician, when is he going to do something with his life?" This is a perception that is generated by other's lazy lack effort such as deferring to a wall of fake Marshalls. Nobody gives a shit.
And stating that perfectionists go nowhere is a deficient generalization.
