I read somewhere that Van Halen, used to use several empty cabinets for show. They specifically bought cabs with blown speakers dirt cheap. Then they removed the speakers to lighten the cabs but had to spray-paint the grillecloth from the inside so it wasnt so obvious.
One time, my band had gig at this venue that had recently changed owners.
We found about 6 old monster cabinets behind the stage, who knows who's?
We figured WTF...so we just lined 'em up along with our own "live" cabs...it looked awesome!
