fuse blows - bridge rectifier?

hi. i have had problems with my jcm600 amp head. the sound would fade out and the pre amp tubes would stop glowing. i assumed that it might be the bridge rectifier. i got my bro to replace it, but he used one from a rechargeable drill lol! he assured me that this would be fine. it certainly looked the same.
anyway, the amp worked perfectly for a few days. until a few days ago. i turned on the amp, let it warm up, then as soon as i flicked the standby, it gave out a bang. i thought it might be the fuse, because i had no sound. changed it (seeing as it had blown) and the same thing happened.
does anyone think it might be the bridge rectifier causing this?
thanks for any advice.
