Question Overdrive effect with AS100D

I am thinking about getting an AS100D. At the moment I play country style using a SUNN MUSTANG 'Strat copy and an Ashland by Crafter electro acoustic through a LANEY GC80 amp. Have had quite a lot of feedback probs with the Crafter which is the reason I've been considering at the AS100D. Have tried both guitars through one recently and was greatly impressed. However, as there is the possibility that I may occasionally want to play a bit of "over-driven" stuff in the future, I asked a dealer about using an external Line 6 Pod with the drive mode selected. He said that this should be avoided at all costs as speaker damage might result.
On the other hand I've read some reviews where AS100D owners have talked about using all sorts of external fx units with this amp. Does anyone have any info regarding this. Thanks in advance.
