While your at the audiologist, have him/her make you some custom molded earplugs. They can be made to accept various inserts for different sound level reductions and can work flat across the spectrum. Often these are partially covered by insurance as "preventive medicine."

That being said, I've got a little tinnitus from loud shows back in the day. I kick myself in the ass for not using earplugs sooner in life.
I don't know if it's a torn eardrum, but I can't remember when it wasn't there at this point...now my left ear is starting to get it too. Mostly it's when I swallow saliva (interestingly, not when I drink a beverage). Maybe it's earwax, but it'd have to be pretty imacted up there. One time I read that some people who have TMJ have their ear canals mush together (Like squeezing a straw with your thumb and finger) and when the canal opens up (release the straw) again the 'unsticking' of the two sides of the canal makes the clicking sound...I dunno though. Anyone else experience this? Bueller?
