your post is really impressive. I think for most people, cost and use are the keys. I have a Peavy Studio Pro 112. That thing is loud as hell! It cost $80 used. If I was playing out with it, it could blow out most any small club. For tone, some smaller tube amps are great, and are easily mic'ed. Whan I saw Jeff Beck years ago, he was plugged into a Fender Champ, which had a line out. You can get a silverface Champ for about $300. keep rocking!
