The design of the amp with it's different circuitry, transformers, caps, etc have a lot to do with the difference in responsiveness and tone and the difference between the 2 is noticeable. Not even close imo.
The Vintage Modern is the closest amp made now that even resembles a Jubilee.
The Jubilee is a very open and dynamic amp with great tone. More organic and 'raw' sounding not as refined or tight as the JCM series which is what makes it so great.
That looseness is what makes the vintage mojo happen imo. You can hear the strings through the amp, the volume and tone controls take on a life of their own as do the woods of the guitars body, neck and fretboard.
It's one of the best amps Marshall has ever done imo.
Coupled with the V30 equipped cab and I'm in heaven.
