Advice on volume control 1959slp re-issue

Hi all,
my 1st post.
I would like to start playing my guitar again but the amp is far too loud for home use. Don't want to buy something smaller and I dont want to lose this to a trade or sale.
I gave it a clean, discoverd the lights out on one of the EL34's but is still loud. Output selector on 8 ohms on 240 mains and is run thru a 1960A 4 x 12. pics attached.
Back when I was playing in pubs, bars and halls, I used to have the Normal volume on 10 and the high treble control anywhere between 4 and 8, which gave me a heavy overdrive, grunty distorted sound. More distorted the higher I had the high treble control.
Would removing another EL34 make any difference ie only have the 2 middle EL34's?
Would like to keep that sound without the loudness.

Any advice?
